Kibuye, Burundi
Alyssa lives and works in Burundi, East Africa, as a med/peds doctor caring for patients as well as teaching and discipling medical students at Kibuye Hope Hospital and Hope Africa University. She loves living in community with her team and serving with shared vision.
The team's vision is "to glorify God as a community of families and individuals, relying on God's grace and growing in Him, who strive through medicine to bring healing and wholeness in word and deed to the underserved of Africa, and to train and disciple African national medical professionals to do the same."
The road less traveled to Burundi for Alyssa included Wheaton College, East Tennessee State University Medical School, University of Alabama at Birmingham med/peds residency, two years post residency in Kenya at Tenwek Hospital, tropical medicine training, and French language school. Thankfully God has continued to confirm along the circuitous journey that medical missions is where "the world's great need and [her] great passion meet" (Buechner). Alyssa is so thankful for the Kingdom work God has given her to do, for learning more each day about experiencing God's strength in her weakness, for the glimpses of eternity she sees in the Burundian patients and medical students, for community in the body of Christ, and for God making all things new!
