Bethany is a counselor and educator who joined Serge in 2003. She has served in Uganda and South Sudan, and is currently based at Rift Valley Academy in Kijabe, Kenya.

Her interests focus on promoting mental health in developing areas, specifically by supporting churches and schools to care for mental health needs in their communities. This has looked like: leading discipleship groups at Christ School Bundibugyo, teaching about HIV/AIDS prevention at Bundimulinga primary school, training primary school teachers in South Sudan, equipping lay counselors in the Sudanese church, teaching missionary kids in Uganda, and counseling "third-culture kids" and their families in Kenya.

All of these experiences have deepened Bethany's confidence in God's redemptive work in the world, while also increasing her desire to see the light of Jesus bring hope and healing into places of brokenness. Though her work has looked different in different places, woven through all of it is the confidence that the love and grace of Jesus has the power to transform people in midst of their suffering and struggle.

Originally from South Carolina, Bethany studied elementary education at the College of Charleston, and went on to receive a master's degree in counseling from Westminster Seminary. After completing her master's, she has continued her professional training through Biblical Seminary's professional counseling program.

Bethany believes that God's grace at work in her life is what frees her share God's love with others. She is thankful for the ways God continues to reveal His daily provision in the face of her own struggles, and she feels privileged to have the opportunity to reflect His grace in unexpected places. She is grateful for the prayer and financial support of people around the world who have allowed her to serve with Serge for more than 12 years.

Feel free to check out her blog: for more information about what she's up to.
