Derek and Tracy Anderson are trading cornfields in central Illinois for tea fields in western Kenya. With their children, Ian and Elyse, they are aiming to serve in the rural town of Litein.Married in 2004, seeds of missionary service were planted long before they said, "I do." Derek has worked in emergency medicine for 15 years, first as an EMT and now as an ER nurse in Peoria, IL. During a visit to Kenya, he saw firsthand the impact of nurses in healthcare, as the country experienced a nursing strike. Tracy's love for missions began after high school when she joined Youth with a Mission, serving in the U.S. and abroad. After that, she studied dietetics with an eye toward treating those suffering from malnutrition in places all around the world. She graduated from Bradley University in 2000. From there, she completed a master's degree at the University of Central Oklahoma. Tracy currently works as a clinical dietitian for Methodist Hospital in Peoria, IL and is eager to connect her past service in missions with her present skills and passion for nourishing others. The Andersons are joining a newly formed Serge team in partnership with AIC Litein Hospital. Painted above the entrance, there are Jesus' words from John 6, "Whosoever cometh unto me I shall in no way cast out." Inspired by this love for God and neighbor, Derek and Tracy look forward to forging partnerships with the hospital and medical college staff. The aim is to use their training and experiences to care for patients while encouraging and supporting Kenyan healthcare workers, all to the glory of God. Find out more about the Litein Team.
