Guatemala City, Guatemala
Heidi was born and raised in Upstate New York. She earned a degree in research psychology and a minor in Bible from Cedarville University in 2014. Upon graduation, she joined a Guatemalan residential care ministry in San Lucas, Sacatepéquez, as a psychology intern. During her eighteen months in Guatemala, she fell in love with the counseling profession, the country, the Spanish language, and the people of Guatemala. Her experience led her to pursue a graduate degree in clinical mental health counseling and upon graduating from Wheaton College in May 2018, she returned to Guatemala in March 2019 as a licensed counselor. She continued working at the same residential care facility, for girls who have experienced sexual trauma, as a trauma therapist.
Heidi is excited by the ability to partner with the Lord through therapy sessions, watching as He steps in and transforms, heals, and redeems stories, as only He can. She enjoys being part of the healing process and creating space for the movement of the Holy Spirit. She finds joy walking alongside the children that the Lord places under her therapeutic care and passionately embraces each new challenge. As she transitions to a new ministry setting as a member of Serge’s team in Guatemala City, she aims to continue doing much of the same work, participating in the redemption of hearts and souls through her trauma counseling, with the children of women living in one of Guatemala’s domestic violence shelters as well as walking alongside children exiting residential care into foster or adoptive care.
