Raised at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem, Mary Spaar has been familiar with Serge her entire life. After years of babysitting, nannying, and attempting to teach 4-year-olds during Sunday school, she finally threw her hat in the ring with Serge’s mission trips. After attending the 2016 company-wide conference as a volunteer, she was asked to return as the Elementary-age curriculum coordinator for one of Serge’s leadership conferences. These experiences, following nearly a decade of working with children, led her to realize God’s calling to work with TCKs. Since then, she has been working closely with Debbie Harrell and hopes to develop a robust TCK emotional care program with Serge, as well as continuing to write curriculum, help with conferences, and throw amazing glow-in-the-dark dance parties for kiddos.
Mary graduated from Belmont University with a B.A. in Religious Studies and a minor in Social Work, and hopes to attend graduate school for clinical mental health counseling. In her time at Belmont, she was an active member of her campus’ Reformed University Fellowship, through which she met her husband, Josh, an RUF intern at Vanderbilt University. They live in Washington DC with their two cats, where Josh attends RTS. Besides working with Serge, Mary enjoys creating art, baking desserts, and lurking at local bookstores.
