The Kynes Family is a part of the medical missionary team at AIC Kijabe Hospital in Kenya. Matt and Ansley met in college, married in 2007 and had several experiences with international missions individually and as a couple throughout Matt's medical education and residency training. They have always felt a strong desire to use the medical skills that Matt has gained as a pediatric anesthesiologist to share the gospel in word and deed with people in need of medical care. In addition, they desire to be involved in training and discipling local physicians and healthcare providers to do the same for their own communities.
Matt connected with physicians at Kijabe Hospital while in medical school has been involved in education projects and teaching there ever since. The Kynes first visited Kijabe as a family in 2016 and returned again for six months in 2019. While there, they were deeply impacted by the community of Kenyan and missionary physicians investing their lives in providing excellent healthcare and training "for God's glory." This included the Serge team, and shortly after their return to the US they began to pursue becoming part of the team.
Matt has been involved in starting a training program in anesthesiology at Kijabe Hospital for physicians from Kenya and other East African countries which plans to launch in 2021. He and fellow Serge missionaries Greg Sund and Rodger Barnette, in partnership with the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons, hope to train future Christian leaders in anesthesiology for the region and equip them to start their own training programs founded on providing excellent healthcare in Jesus' name.
The Kynes' school-aged children will be attending Rift Valley Academy and when Ansley is not at home with the youngest she will be a support to the other members of the Serge team and Kijabe community.
