Laura Stewart

Laura Stewart

Laura was raised on a farm in a small rural town in Ontario, Canada. Her heart was dramatically changed when she came to understand the gospel in the fall of 2004 while attending University in Southern California. She is passionate about sharing Jesus with others so they too can experience the joy of being loved by and walking with Him.

After traveling to Uganda for the first time in the summer of 2005, Laura returned many times. She's never been able to figure out exactly what she wants to be when she "grows up," but so far she has loved every life chapter and knows that God is weaving all the details together-preparing her for the next thing and making it into something beautiful. She is thankful God allows her to have a part in the bigger story of His Kingdom.

For three years, Laura worked as Assistant to the General Counsel for various International U.S.-based non-profits. Then she went off to University. After graduation, Laura took a job managing a Starbucks where she solidified her love for strong coffee. Following this, Laura stepped into a career (fueled by strong coffee!) working as a political policy assistant for almost five years on the Hill in Canadian politics. She has a B.A. in Political Science, and while she loved her career in politics, in 2013, God led Laura to move to a rural village in Uganda to help establish the activities of a young organization. Four years ago, God challenged Laura to leave her ""comfort"" zone of the Uganda she knew and loved and move to a remote area in the Rwenzori Mountains just 4 kms from the Congo.

Laura loves and serves the people of the Bundibugyo region and has a desire to see them come to know and thrive in the love of Jesus. Her work is primarily focused on youth and children's outreach through various avenues-literacy outreach, a children's library, and Bible clubs.

Life is an adventure. How does one go from farm girl, to U.S.-based non-profits, to federal policy and politics, to living in the African bush loving, educating & developing vulnerable youth? There isn't an answer, but Laura is convinced that Jesus is the answer to every question.
